Seeing the increase in the demand of business featured smartphones, companies are doing various things to attract their customers. Nokia, on the other hand, has maintained it’s positioning of E series smartphones which are still very popular across the globe. After the success of Nokia N8, the E7 is latest to pave ways in the market. The E series from Nokia is also termed as communicator devices. The N9000 was the first business phone launched to cater to the needs of professionals. Since then, the E series has travelled a long way to establish itself as a pioneer in the business phone segment. With the passage of time, the demands and the technology have changed drastically and the liking of people has also seen a change. Now, people search for devices which could serve as a full business phone and a multimedia device at the same time. They also expect strong power backup, better user experience and all these qualities in fewer prices. Here, the question raises that whether the Nokia E7 is successful in meeting the expectations of the modern generation and will it be able to resist the success of Apple and Android run devices.
Overview of Nokia E7
The recent years have witnessed the rise of more advance operating systems and the improvement in technology has made it possible to expect more from your device. The Nokia E7 is carrying the flagship Symbian operating system and some inclusive features which are a trademark for Nokia devices. One thing which needs to be mentioned is the future of Nokia devices will either see a new era or the Symbian smartphones will sustain in the segments. Nokia has announced the partnership with Microsoft for developing Windows run smartphones and hence, now it’s very important to see that whether the Nokia E7 will succeed in rescuing Symbian run smartphones in near future. Nokia has done great efforts in designing the E7 to make it vocal in the business smartphone segment. The Nokia E7 is a power packed device with great display, good calling quality and a durable battery.
Looking inspired from the famous Nokia N8, the Nokia E7 seems identical on the design part. So, if you had rejected the N8 for any reason, it’s the time to check out E7. The anodized aluminium chassis with engineering expertise give the E7 sturdiness and strength to the body. The phone looks heavier than the N8 and it is also large and thick than the N8. The screen at 4 inches is fair enough to give a bigger space for your works on the phone. The AMOLED capacitive touchscreen is quick and you will find some pre-configured apps on the home screen for immediate access. You can also customize the home screen to make your preferences on priority. The Nokia E7 is a slide out phone and beneath the screen plate you will find a full QWERTY keypad with numbers and signs. The keypad is spacious and the alphanumeric buttons are given proper attention in designing with beauty. You will find one physical button on the front side (for wake up, menu and back functions) and you need to give a strong push by both thumbs to slide out the phone. The weight at 176 grams stands uniform whether you use the phone in landscape, portrait or in slide out position. On the right side of the body, you will find SIM slot, shutter key and volume switch. Whereas the left is left spacious with only one unlock switch there. Your most asked audio jack (3.5mm) is positioned on the top and next to it; the power button is given to control the phone. The rear side, with its 8MP camera with auto focus looks simple. Since, the Nokia E7 is a 3G enabled phone; it is obvious to have a front camera for video call and chat facility.
If you have seen the Nokia N8 and were waiting to get something better than it, the Nokia E7 will surly get you to buy it for all reasons. The hardware part of E7 is very impressive. Countering the threat of a Windows run sibling from Nokia, it is worrying for E7 that it could be the last generation of Symbian series smartphone from the company. It is only on the discussion table, but it is true that Nokia is working with Microsoft to develop a Windows run smartphone. Whatever is in the future, we are finding the greats in Nokia E7. The 8MP camera is sufficient to give good quality images and video. The screen with its gigantic size makes the viewing easier and brighter. The dual keypad (touch and physical) helps you in selecting the best way to type texts and massages. The chassis of Nokia E7 is stylish, classic and very intriguing in look. The built-in HDMI-out port and HD video recording features enable you to do extra with the phone.
What’s not so great?
It may be on the cards of Nokia to develop a smartphone on Windows OS, but the Nokia E7 will not be a part of it. I continue to express my rejection of the Symbian OS (it is general and outdated) and would love to see it running on Windows OS. Due to the OS, the UI (user interface) is not very thrilling. The multimedia experience is again disappointing and the pre-installed browser is heavy and expired for modern use. Apart from this, the price of Nokia E7 restricts those who were waiting for some cheaper N8.
The first competitor or Nokia E7 is N8. The Nokia N8 is in the markets and is better on size and some business centric features. Apart from the N8, other manufacturers like Apple, HTC, Sony Ericsson and Motorola are in the competition. The Apple iPhone 4 is already creating sensations in the market and it is very tough for rest of the devices to fight with the faster OS and display qualities in iPhone. Where HTC, Samsung and Motorola are already developing their smartphones on Android OS, Nokia is under R&D to develop a Window run phone. The Blackberry devices have their own following but they have all potential to put the E7 on back seat.
The bottom line
I may sound repetitive by mentioning the probability of being the last in the Symbian series smartphones from Nokia; I would give thumbs up to the Nokia E7. The smartphone is indeed excellent and the hardware deserves applaud. The design and the specs are made in accordance with the requirements of a business oriented smartphone. So, the rest discussion comes to the software part. I will recommend buying it to test the software and send us your feedback.
